The Job
Home Photo Album KL7AC The Job

I was recently afforded the opportunity to work with the FAA. At age 41 it was a perfect, if not last the time to change careers and I took full advantage. I am now trained or "certified" on many of the FAA navigational systems. It has been a lot of work and a great experience. I have traveled to the FAA academy in Oklahoma City many times and attended many schools. The training has taken the better part of 5 years but certainly nice to put my old brain in gear.

With a recent reorganization our site assignments have changed. I am working on mapping our sites with the help of google maps. So far I have these villages mapped. Pictures will be added as I get them. Please zoom out if the map is not viewable and click on the satellite view for a view of the terrain.

Barter Island or Kaktovik as the town is called has the unique distinction of being Polar bear country. One has to be very careful when out near the runway checking the Nav aids as you could have some company you really don't want. When the wind is blowing hard and your parka hood is fully deployed, it is no mean feat for one of these gals to say hello!

Fort Yukon just above the Arctic Circle is the hub for those people living in the Arctic. Fort Yukon is where I end up spending a great deal of time especially in the summer.
